SUMMARY: TRANSFORMATION OF MOUNTAIN AREA OF YUGOSLAVIA - THE NECESSITY FOR PRESENT DEVELOPMENT OR THE PROBLEM FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT. Mountains should be constantly and systematically researched and in this regard any scientific and professional discussion is of indispensable use. Mountains are ecological reserve and they are actually that recource about whose economy should be discussed only from the point of view of protection. Mountains have imposed the awereness of integral nature protection as well as the protection of human environment on the whole. Preserved nature of mountains is a powerful absorber for all ecological excesses in the nearby valleys and ravines. However, mountains are undergoing those changes, which, it seems, are a necessity and this transformation, often elemental and out of control, should be understood as a warning today, so that an unsolving problem should be avoided in the future. If transformation is a necessity, then all these changes of mountain area should be registered and explained in order to plan and controle future development of mountains.

SUMMARY: FUNDAMENTAL GEOGRAPHICAL AND SPATIAL-PLANNING PROBLEMS OF ŽUMBERAK.
Žumberak is small and marginal region of Central Croatia. The historicogeographical backgraund differs it form the surrounding regional units as a result of the long period of incorporation of Žumberak in the Military Border in Croatia.
That period left clear traces on the characteristics of the area's mode of settlement on the growth and structure of the population, on the agricultural landscape, on the economic development and communications.
The existing administrative division of the area into segments of there communes has no foundation in geographical reality. The demographic, economic and general perspectives in all there parts are unfavourable, so spatial-planning solutions for fhat underdeveloped, mountainous and depopulated region must involve the whole area through a unique concept.

SUMMARY: SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHANGES IN THE REGION OF KUPRES AFTER THE SECOND WORLD WAR (1945. - 1991.). The region of Kupres covers high karst fields of Blagaj, Kupres, Vukovsko and Ravno in the South-Western Bosnia. In the pre-war times (1941.) there were cca 20.500 inhabitants in this region and in 1981. only 10,098, which is 50,7% less than in 1941. This is due prirnarily to war devastation and post-war ermgration owing to economic reasons. In the pre-war times and immediately after the war agriculture was the predominant ucupattion of the population,
sheep and cattle breeding in particular.
In the post-war years, bessides agriculture, other economic activties, like industry, trade, mountain tourism etc have started, due to whic the percent of agricultural population has fallen from 89% to 46%.

SUMMARY: THE FACTORS OF THE CHANGES OF IBAR-KOPAONIK REGION. Valley part of subregion covers the valley through which runs the river Ibar an the mountainous part covers the mountain Kopaonik. The valley of Ibar used to be centar of medieval state of Serbia in the past. The region is poorly inhabited dan luntll recently has shown the tendency of lagging behind in the economic development.
In this area, the mining has been known in Middle Ages when Kopaonik was know to have been the famous mining area. The exploatiation of iron are still goes on. In this subregion there are some other ores discovered, such as mangetite, graphite, volostonit, cobalt. These all enables the mining cooperation vhit the industry to become the leading economic field wich has influenced the concentration of the population in the cities. As the condition for faster economic development appear some Important coal reserves. However, within a few past years the tourism has been promoted as the main facotor of changes of Kopaonik, as well as of the Ibar valley. Kopaonik has proved to be both the witer and summer tourist center. It has become the largest ski center in Serbia. But the mountainous tourism and mining are related in Kopaonik.
The Ibar valley has the conditions for the development of tourism (numerous mediaIeval monasteries and spas), too.

SUMMARY: TRANSFORMATION OF THE HILL MOUNTAINOUS EX-PANS IN THE AREA OF TIKVESH. It's taken important measures for developing the hill mountainous expance in the area of Tikvesh. One of the most important measure is developing the agriculture so as plowing and working on the soil for growing grain fodder and industrial culture. The other measure which is taken is exploiting the pasturea which are suitable for developing cattle raising. Because of then new and modern farms are opened for growing ships, goata, horses and head of cattle.
Besides this, it's taken important measures for developing the fruit growing, foreattry and growing beekeeping as a perspektive in agriculture.

SUMMARY: GEOGRAPHICAL OUTLOOK OF HILLY-MOUNTAINOUS BORDER REGION FROM SERBIA TO BULGARIA ONWARDS. The border region covering the surface from Serbia to Bulgaria onwards,
consists mostly of low mountains, Stara planina, higly-located river valleys and Negotina region northward. In spite of such relief, it used to be densely populated region. After the World War II, it hadn't been an attractive place for the young to live in any longer, so they started to move collectively. Gradually but permanently, the traditional economic field the cattle breeding - disappeared. The present situation shows: almost deserted villages in the hilly-mountainous region, unused pastures and meadows, the cities situated in the mountainous piedmont areas inhabited by peasant inhabitants. Mostly those people work as unqualified manpower in industrial sections of average capacities.
From the point of viewof normal economic development, the border region toward Bulgaria hasn't great perspective for geographical prosperity. The traditional economy hardly exists, and the new one hasn't been developed enough.

SUMMARY: RECENT TRANSFORMATIONS OF KOPAONIK MOUNTAIN. Mountain Kopaonik in the central part of Serbia (Yugoslavia), with a number of specificities has drawn the attention of research workers of various protesstons for a long time. Kopaonik has become a centre of new phenomena, processes, elements and factors. Many of them may should become the subject of modern scientific research, because it seems that field practice is far ahead from the adequate scientifically justified and confirmed solutions. Special problems are preserva.tion, protection and development of nature on mountain Kopaonik. This is of an importance for a number of activities on the mountain, for the present and future. It seems that the protection of Kopaonik will give best results if it is based on the principles of conception of active protection of nature, which has more followers, because it is theoretically and practically porposeful, scientIfically reasonable, in many cases literally confirmed and universal.

SUMMARY: DEMOGRAPHIC-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE HILL-MOUNTAIN AREA OF BOSNIA
AND HERZEGOVINA. This area covers about a fiftypercent of communes and setllements and two fifths of population of Bosnia and Herzegovina lives in that region. The population increase in this part of the Republic during the 1948-81. penod was more rapid than in other parts of the Republic and Republjc itself due to two exreme trends: depopulation in the relatively broad area and uncontrolled population in the much smaller Sarajevo - Zenica valley.

SUMMARY: AGRARIAN CAPABILITIES TO REVIVE MOUNTAIN VILLAGES OF SERBIA. Besides negative natural processes (erosion) there are emigration and economy backwardness notable too in the mountam villages of Serbia. Development of agriculture is the best way to keep the populatin oand to revive mountain villages. In order to achieve the above mentioned it is necessary to stimulate young peoles return to mountain villages, change the agrarian structure. mark agrarian micro-regions, direct production towards the cattle raising and "healthy food“ , construct small agroin- dustrial sections , improve traffic infrastructure. favor investments into mountain agriculture, etc. By gradual realization of the measures suggested it is possible to activate economically the mountain regions of Serbia.

SUMMARY: POPULATION NATURAL DYNAMICS OF YUGOSLAV HILLMOUNTAIN AREAS- THE MIDDLE BOSNIA EXEMPLAR FOR THE PERIOD 1980-1989.YEAR. The middle Bosnia is a part of the central mountain area, Yugoslav integral large area complex. According to the administrativ-political organisation it is consisting of 37 municipalities with total are 12883 km/2 (ENCLOSURE 1). During ten years studied period the middle Bosnia population is characterized by the slow pulsating (variability 3,1 prom.) low values of middle type natality (the rates were between 15,2 prom. and 18,3 prom.). Furthermore, it is noticing the slow pulsating (variability 1,0 prom.) low mortality values with the rates between 6,3 prom. and 7,3 prom. (the rates of infantile mortality after Year 1984. were low and during first four studied years were between 25,5 prom. and 32,7 prom.). The results is the slow pulsating (variability 3,5 prom.) middle values of moderate natural population growth type (the rates were between 7,9 prom.) and 11,4 prom.). According to the indicated results, as wel as considering the characteristics of middle Bosnia sex and age population structure during studied period and Its social-economics development, and as per as the three-stages model of demographics transition, that is as per as the population development charac. teristics, it is possible to conclude that the studied population is very deep in a late transition substage.

SUMMARY: MAP-METRIC ANALYSIS OF THE CHANGE OF THE HEIGHT ARRANGEMENET OF THE OLD-MOUNTAINOUS AREA POPULATION. The old-mountainous area, a part of Serbia set on the Balkan covers the mountain Stara planina and its smaller integral totallties Zaglava, Visok and Vidlič. Though hilly-mountainous border zone this area used to be relatively densely inhabited in the past. However, in the post-war period the migration of the populiation grew to be distinct. The people moved on from the villages to the cines and from hillymountainous areas to the valleys. In the 1948 in the mountainous area lived 54,3% out of total populatIon of that area and in 1981. only 21,6%. But on the contrary, the number of the inhabitants 'in the hilly areas has enlarged from 45,7% to 78,4% out of total population of the region Stara planina (old-mountamous area).

SUMMARY: HIPSOMETRIC STRUCRURE OF THE RELIEF WITH REDISTRIBUTION OF POPULATION ACCORDING TO ZONES OF HEIGHT IN REPUBLIC OF MAKEDONIA. Extended cartometrical studies of hipothetical structure on space of Republic of Macedonia and redistribution of the spaces, according to zones of height of 100 m, is permanently increasing from 46 to 700 m, and permanently decreasing beyond that height. On the contrary, population inventories from 1961. and 1981. showed deviations which are closely dependet to presence of large number of urban populations in the examined hipsometrical zone. Accordint to relief classes, plains are the most populated (which comprehend 20,3% and are populated with 61,8% in 1%1. and 72,6% in 1981.), then hills and mountain spaces. This fact is confirmed with data for apsolute density of population which in 1961. is increasing for the plains, stagnate with decreasing tendency in hill spaces, and strongly decreases in mountain spaces in relation to 1981. inventory.

SUMMARY: RECENT NEGATIVE ANTHROPOLOGICAL PROCESSES IN IMMEDIATE BASIN OF THE PROKOŠKO LAKE. Mountain morpho-structures of the Dinaric system, with their high mountain lakes know as "tarns" in geographic literature, include the Vranica. Within the mountain morpho-structure of the Vranica, at the altitude of 1.485 m, one finds the Prokoško lake of 48.330 m2 are and 13,0 m maximum depth. This mountain-water locality is undergoing the final evolution stage - that of the sapropoelization. The transformation of the lake into a pool-like geo-locality is greatly influenced by the processes of washing away, defluxion and cryofluxion. These processes made a Significant impact on the creation of a pre-lake accumulative (prolluvio-delluvial and defluxtive) plane in the southwest part of the lake valley. It is a rather levelled pre-lake surface, presently much sectioned by permanent and periodic, torrent-nature, affluents of the lake. The bathymetry of the lake bottom and its sampling performed in 1981. showed it to be extremely silty and the structure of the deposits clearly reveals their origin from the southwest aft1uent zone. The fluviatile and drfluxion processes greatly influence the state of the elevation of the lake bottom which in turn decreases its depth. On the other hand, the fluiatile erosion going on longitudinally in the lake etfluent represents another unfavourable natural geographic process. The regressive erosion adds to the permanen t deepening of the lake effluent which receives

SUMMARY: THE ANTROPOGENIC FACTOR IMPACTS TOWARDS ALTERATION OF WATER'S CONDITION ON THE HILL MOUNTAIN RANGES OF KOSOVO. The SAP of Kosovo place in a strong relief with characteristics of hillmountain ranges. The terrain lines of 500-1000 m have an unbroken stretches of 6.849,7 km/2, 64,3% of Kosovo's area (10.887 km/2). The modern processes in this spaces are characterized by low degree of benefits of natural and human potency, by abandoned properties, stretched slopes of erosion and the emigration of a population. Meanwhile, on a soft slopes with the favourable laky stratum is possible to establish the modem vinyeards and orchards complexes, also to cultivate the other cultures with intensive manner. The hill-mountain ranges of Kosovo with their geological, morphological and hydrological characteristics, offer the excellent natural conditions to erect an artificial water-gate under existing conditions for their intensive transformation.
Until now, in this terrains are erected 7 water-gates with 570 mil m/3 of water, 15% of Kosovo's waterway. But, the existing analyses shows that in this upland is possible to erect about 54 small and 47 big water-gates, wich hydrographic inventory radically will be changed.

SUMMARY: NATURAL RESOURCES AS FACTORS OF TRANSFORMATION AND ORGANIZATION OF EAST HERZEGOVINA. We opserve East Herzegovina as a unique geographical object (geosystem natural territorial complex) in which reciprocal interaction of all structure comonents is realizen (water, air, litho and biosphere). The human society has the particular significance by its typical real systeme acquires the connotation of the technical system as the product of action of the man (management of system). Such systems are known in the literature as organization ones.
The phyical-geographical suppositions are marked in the paper with point on rational valorization of the natural resources and transformation and organization of Est Hertzegovina. The particular emphasis is set on the energetical resources, whose rational exploitation has included meliorational solutions especially ofthe fields in Carst. Because of it the water resourse is set in the focus by the significance. The other resources which have the more essential the influence on the transformation of the domain (carbon, boxite), are pointe out the article.

ZAKLJUČAK: MINERALNE SIROVINE I RAZVOJ BRDSKO-PLANINSKIH PROSTORA. Proizvodno efektuirani deo mineralno-sirovinske baze brdsko-planinskih područja, predstavlja važan činilac sredstava za proizvodnju i materijalni elemenat proizvodnih snaga celokupnog jugoslovenskog drustva. Mineralne sirovine brdsko-planinskih područja su u mnogim slučajevima - a takva im je uloga i danas - odigrale ulogu industrijskih polova i na taj način imale ključnu funkciju u razvoju tih, najčešće, ekonomski zaostalih područja u prevazilaženju njihove ekonomske a i socijalne zaostalosti.

SUMMARY: THE TOURISM AS THE FACTOR OF TRANSFORMATION OF MOUNTAIN KOPAONIK REGION.
